Dutton Locks, River WeaverCultural Landscape
Downstream from Northwich along the River Weaver Valley lie Dutton Locks. They are located in the most tranquil of settings, helped by the lack of vehicular access to the site.
Nearby attractions: Anderton Locks, Northwich: one of the UK’s most impressive pieces of canal engineering, this was built to link the Weaver Navigation and the Trent and Mersey Canal. Built in 1875 it was the World’s first boatlift, aiming to transport salt, coal and clay cargos. The Operations Centre is open all year round. See website for details: www.andertonboatlift.co.uk Bluebell Cottage Garden, Dutton: adjacent to the Trent and Mersey Canal, this garden covers just 1 ½ acres, but has over 2000 different types of plants. See website: www.bluebellcottagegardens.co.uk The Salt Museum, Northwich: there has been a Salt Museum in Northwich for over a century. The museum hosts various events and is also popular with school and group visits. See website: www.saltmuseum.org.uk
