Minehead – the city of flowersNear byMinehead itself is famous for its flowers; it won the award for Best Town in Bloom in the National Britain in Bloom competitions of both 1995 and 1997. Minehead was also a member of the United Kingdom team that won the World in Bloom competition of 1998. The town has many other attractions, including paddle-boat cruises, seaside arcades, the beach and, of course, the traditional fish and chips. The nearby Butlins resort now offers a venue for prestigious concerts as well as its traditional holidays. There are wonderful walks you can take from the town and, for those who would like to go a bit further, the unmissable West Somerset Railway. Here you can travel by steam train all the way to Bishops Lydeard, just north of Taunton, getting a fresh view of the beautiful landscape of the Quantocks. Minehead offers fine views across the Bristol Channel towards Wales and is a great gateway to explore the Exmoor landscape and the South West coast path.
